The Atelier

The Atelier

Aube

/ ob / signifies dawn

The slow arrival of a new day and new beginnings, dawn characterizes the brand's ethos.

Challenging the fashion status quo of planned obsolescence, each design has been thoughtfully considered, pushing the boundaries of purpose & beauty and omitting the rest.

All of my creations are handcrafted from high quality and sustainably sourced materials and are intended to be well worn, cared for, repaired and passed on so the stories they carry live on. Like our own scars and laugh lines are signs of a life well lived, my products will only become more interesting over time.

Aube Atelier is a celebration of slowly made, finer and fewer things in life and I invite you to join the movement of people who want things made differently.

Design Ethos

Strive for the essential

Does everything in this design play an essential role?

If it doesn’t, it should be removed. I strive for the design to be so well considered that removing one component would feel like pulling out the last block of the Jenga tower before the whole structure comes tumbling down.

With one eye on the future

I aim to minimize waste and my environmental footprint while maximizing support to local suppliers.

I design everlasting anchors to be paired with ever-changing styles.

I employ sustainably sourced and durable materials that will age gracefully (learn more)

Laugh lines, wrinkles and scars are unique to each one of us and signs of a life well-lived. The same applies to leather. The natural material will present variations in colour, texture, and small markings and these unique imperfections should be celebrated

Love what you’ve got with all your heart

Through the design process I wonder; what quality can I create today that will be appreciated, repaired, and passed on from parent to child, from friend to friend? I encourage you to shop Aube Atelier with the same intention and care for your products. By doing so, the life of the product will be extended exponentially and our environmental impact reduced significantly.

All of my products are designed to be long lasting and like any other product, they will with wear overtime comes repair. In such cases, please contact me.

Repair is like healing the soul. It restores the emotion that inhabits the object.

About the maker

Allô, I’m Jacinthe - the soul and hands behind Aube Atelier. Originally from Montréal, where my heart is, Vancouver has been home for the last 15 years. Both places highly influence who I am and how I see the world, and their differences are reflected in how I approach my work.

I completed my studies in Industrial Design and worked in the field for several years while specializing in sustainable and circular design. When not in the studio, I share my knowledge on the topic as a university lecturer and working with brands on how to design more sustainably.

Leatherworking came into my life at a young age. I recall seeing my mom working on intricate embossed leather pieces. I was always fascinated by the possibilities this noble material can offer. Much like wood, leather can be embossed, carved, molded, repaired and will wear in, not out. My passion for leatherworking was born from those qualities along with a desire to move to a more manual and less digital way of living.

My approach is focused on exploring the space between strong aesthetics and simple shapes, and let the material speak for itself. My products are initially designed for people I love and know well. This allows me to ensure each design responds to the real daily needs of real humans. They are my wear testers and their feedback is crucial in perfecting my designs. This is also why most products are named after the lovely humans in my life that inspire what I do every day.

I humbly acknowledge that Aube Atelier operates on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples.
